# Bookings

> Book a student into a class and manage their unit attempts.

Administrators, enrolment officers and assessors can make and maintain bookings.
Read-only staff can view them.

## Book a student

1. Open **Courses**, select the course and intended class, then choose **Book a student**.
2. Under **Find the student**, search by name, student number or email.
3. Select the matching student. If they are new, use **Add the student** first.
4. Check **Booked on** and enter the study reason if known. The booked-on date cannot be in the future.
5. Choose **Book**.

A booking creates a training attempt for every unit in the course. For a course
with two units, Taylor Example's booking contains two separate unit attempts.

If **Earlier attempts still in progress** appears, review each earlier attempt.
Choose **How it ends** and its **On** date, then submit the booking again. Only
close an earlier attempt when that reflects what happened.

A duplicate attempt for the same student, unit and class start date is refused.
Check the existing booking before trying to add another.

## Find and follow a booking

Open it from the class roster, the student's **Training** section or the
enrolments list. It shows the units and their history.

Course roster filters include **All**, **Waiting for results**, **Ready to
issue** and **Finished**. On a large screen, selecting a student can open a
results panel; on a smaller screen it opens the full booking.

The booking moves from **Booked** through training and results to **Ready to
issue** or **Needs verified USI**, depending on what is still required. A saved
booking alone does not mean a statement can be issued.

## Change a booking

The full booking offers class moves, cancellation or withdrawal, and unit status
and result actions. A move must be to another class of the **same course**.
Existing commencement and attendance history is retained.

Use cancellation or withdrawal to reflect what happened. Only an administrator
can remove an unstarted booking, with a reason; removal is unavailable once
training has started.
